Oh boy,

It's back-to-school season!

Where I grew up, back-to-school season always came at the end of summer/beginning of fall. I swear, with the leaves beginning to change, you could smell that it was time to go back to school.

I think that's why the smell of late summer / early fall will always energize me. It meant the start of the new school year, and it was loaded with anticipation. It was a fresh start, but not a completely new start. It was going back to the same physical building, but this time a year older and (hopefully) wiser. You could apply a lot of what you learned the previous year to the coming one (in the classroom, in the cafeteria, or on the field), and that meant opportunity.

Life hasn't been easy the past year, and some things might feel like deja vu. On the macro level it's COVID tearing through communities, climate change-related diasters, human rights being abused for political gain, but in your individual situation it's probably something more unique and might have nothing to do with those macro trends.

But whatever the challeges are this upcoming season, let's channel that back-to-school energy and remember: the game might not have changed, but we have. We are smarter than last year. We are more resilient last year. We got this.

Happy back-to-school season to all of you, because if you're an HHL alumni, then you'll always be a lifetime learner!

Yours
Pam
