Privacy policy

The HHLAA is pleased that you are visiting the Alumni website. We take the protection of your personal data very seriously and adhere strictly to the provisions of current data privacy laws (e.g. German Data Protection Act (BDSG), Telemedia Act (TMG) and Unfair Competition Act (UWG)). The following policy provides you with insight into how we guarantee this protection and which kind of data we collect for which purpose.

1. Collection and processing of personal data

Personal data is only collected based on the current applicable regulations and only within the framework of a registration. Beyond this, your data is only used for statistical purposes, to tailor our electronic services to meet current needs and to provide you with HHLAA related information via email. By registering you agree to these conditions. Of course, you are entitled to revoke any consent that you provide – either wholly or partially – at any time, effective for the future.

We use the so-called double opt-in method. The way this system functions is that upon registration, you initially provide your access data and a valid email address and – if you’re not registering via LinkedIn – also a password of your choice, in the registration portal. You then receive an email from us with a confirmation link. We do not release your account until you have confirmed this link.

2. Disclosure of your personal data to third parties

We will not disclose your personal data to third parties.

3. Newsletter and updates

By registering with our portal you agree to receive a newsletter on career and alumni related events and news. You can opt-out of the newsletter at any time by using the unsubscribe button at the bottom of every email. You also agree to receive updates regarding platform content. If you do not wish to receive these updates, you can adjust the preference settings in your user profile.

4. Export and processing of the data in states outside of the European Economic Area (EEA)

With two exceptions, all your personal data will be stored on servers in Germany.

1. If you’re registering via LinkedIn, the information that you’re using this method of registration is collected by LinkedIn and may be stored on servers outside the European Economic Area.
2. This website uses Google Maps on some pages to display interactive maps and show event locations.
Google Maps is a service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. By using this website you consent to the collection, processing and the use of data (entered by you and automatically collected) by Google, its representatives or third parties. For more information, please have a look at the terms and conditions for Google Maps, at the Google Privacy Policy and especially its transparency and choice options.

5. Cookies

This website uses a session cookie to keep you logged in as you move between pages on the website. Unless you explicitly choose the option to stay logged in, in which case your session remains active for 180 days, every inactive session is automatically deleted after 24 hours.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies. However, you can prevent this from happening manually by changing the settings in your browser to ensure that cookies are no longer accepted. Please find details on this option in the instructions provided by the manufacturer of your browser.

6. Piwik

This website uses Piwik, a web analytics open-source software. Piwik uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address anonymized prior to its storage) will be stored on the server of the service provider in Germany. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.

7. External links

We seek to provide you with the best possible information. This is why you will find links on our website that refer to pages owned by third parties. Unless it is perfectly obvious, we draw your attention to the fact that these are external links. The HHLAA has no influence on the content or design of these pages owned by external providers and hence refers to their privacy policies. Please be aware that the assurances provided in this privacy policy quite naturally do not necessarily apply there.

8. Security

The HHLAA takes technical and organisational measures to ensure security is in line with the current state of technology to protect the data you provide to the HHLAA against accidental or deliberate manipulation, loss, destruction or access by unauthorised persons. We continually improve our security measures as technology progresses.

9. Public record of procedures

We have summarised the data specified under Sec. 4e Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG) in our public record of procedures. You may access this information at any time. For this purpose, please see the contact information below.

10. Right of information, questions on data privacy and revocation

We attach great importance to your trust in us. This is why we seek to be available to provide you with information and to answer your questions at any time. Please contact the HHLAA if you have any questions concerning the processing of your personal data; the HHLAA is also available if you seek information, wish to place applications or lodge complaints on the question of data privacy.
